Twain’s Billiards and Tap
Samuel Clemens, better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American author and humorist. The restaurant that holds his name is much less cheery. If you come before 9pm you will find the place packed with families and children running wild! We circled the venue looking for a safe way in- once inside we were informed that it is a seat yourself… but the open tables were not cleared.
We sat at one of the uncleared tables, waited and waited, and finally ordered some beers. One good thing about this spot is the beer. With a micro-brew on site we decided to try one of each of their home brews. The Pale Ale was my favorite but I found the room temp choice interesting.
By the end of the night we were full, but confused by a few of the selections. The Spent Grain Bread with Honey Butter is a novelty bread made from the leftover grains used to make the home brew- it was cheap but I thought it was very bland. The Boiled P’nuts were over cooked and spicy (nothing on the menu denotes the spice). They say they have the best Greek salad in Decatur, but there were no olives in sight! The Turkey Burger was standard and the Philly was dry with no visible onions or mushrooms… Okay that’s enough!
I could see this place being a late night hot spot, but it is not a place I would visit again for dinner.
